Since 2002, the Mental Health on College Campuses conference has brought thousands of attendees together to address important issues on campus, shape service delivery, promote the use of resources to improve college mental health and much more.
Formerly known as the Depression on College Campuses conference, the event was renamed in the fall of 2024 to reflect the entire landscape of campus mental health and the changing needs of today’s college students.

A New Generation
The current generation of college students has experienced unprecedented stressors in their lifetime – including trauma, violence, and a pandemic – that have changed the ways we provide treatment and other support services. College campuses across the U.S. continue to see rising rates of stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout, with many college students meeting the criteria for at least one mental health problem. The conference explored the evolution of college mental health over the past 20 years and discussed innovative ways higher education has responded to unique student needs today while looking ahead to the future.

Student Mental Health in a Hybrid World
As college campuses continue to see rising rates of stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout among students, the 2023 Depression on College Campuses Conference explored the benefits and drawbacks of the current hybrid landscape on student well-being. The conference examined how changes in the way students learn and interact can impact connectedness, belonging, and mental health, and how the digital space has influenced treatment delivery while providing new opportunities for innovative prevention programming.

Acknowledge. Reflect. Reimagine.
The 2022 conference examined the lessons learned over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic—from conceptual framework and concrete changes related to virtual and hybrid learning models. Participants joined keynotes, workshops, and sessions to discuss new research findings, model programs, and innovative strategies to advance how we support student wellness in a holistic and equitable way.

The Impact of COVID-19 and Racial Injustice on College Student Mental Health
The 2021 Depression on College Campuses Conference explored the impact of the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and racial injustice on college student mental health and looked at how colleges and universities are responding. Attendees learned about new research findings, programs, and policies which highlighted college student mental health in the context of current events.
