Our Data & Design Core provides University of Michigan scientists with the resources and individualized support needed to use secondary, existing data sources for mental health research.

We aim to accelerate the research process by connecting investigators to valuable existing datasets so that researchers can draw meaningful conclusions more quickly and efficiently. Our goal is to equip researchers with the tools needed to make meaningful advancements in depression research.

Our services

Our dedicated Data & Design Core staff provides personalized consultations, knowledge and resources focused on helping investigators leverage secondary data to advance their mental health research.

Our experts offer one-on-one consultations and can guide you in the following areas:

  • Identifying secondary data sources for mental health studies
  • Data preparation (e.g., merging/appending data, preparing variables for analysis)
  • Developing an analysis plan, including pre-registration
  • Statistical analysis, including:
    • Descriptive statistics
    • Basic inferential statistics (t-tests, correlational analyses, and chi-square)
    • Regression (linear, multiple, repeated measures, logistic)
    • Applied survey data analysis using complex survey design features
    • Latent growth curve analysis
    • Multi-level/hierarchical linear modeling
    • Longitudinal data analysis
    • Generalized linear models (e.g., Poisson, negative binomial, and zero-inflated models)
  • Preparing results for publication (methods and results sections, tables, and figures)
  • Survey design
