Dr. Mezuk is the co-director of the Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health in the Department of Epidemiology at the U-M Public Health. She is a social epidemiologist whose research focuses on understanding the intersection of mental and physical health. Dr. Mezuk also serves as the faculty lead of the Data & Design Core at the Eisenberg Family Depression Center.

Much of her work has looked at the consequences of depression for medical morbidity and function-ing in mid- and later-life, with particular attention to metabolic diseases associated with aging, such as diabetes and frailty. Her interest in health services research centers on considering how depression impacts the self-management of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, as well as how programs designed to address disability in later life impact mental health.

Dr. Mezuk also serves as the director of the analytic core for the Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research. Since 2013 she has collaborated with community colleagues at the YMCA of Greater Richmond, Virginia, on evaluating and augmenting their community-based diabetes self-management program.
