Session Descriptions for the 2024 Workplace Mental Health Conference on August 7
The pandemic led many organizations to better understand that successful workplaces must pay more attention to the well-being and work-life challenges of their employees. As many organizations are now constructing their "new normal," there are many lessons to learn from leading workplaces that support employees as whole people (not just as employees or assets) and from the differing approaches of the pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic work world. This keynote address will explore these lessons and help you think about how you can implement whole-person values in your organization.
Employees with caregiving responsibilities—whether caring for a child, an aging parent or relative, or a loved one with a chronic condition or disability—experience greater burnout, fatigue and mental health challenges. This moderated panel discussion will explore the impact of caregiving on employee mental health, and address strategies and resources for supporting employees in addressing both professional and personal responsibilities. Essential topics will include the “sandwich generation”, an employer pilot dedicated to identifying and scaling solutions for caregivers in the workplace, and family caregiving from the individual perspective. Attendees will have the opportunity to get their questions answered throughout the session.
Managers can make an impact on creating and sustaining a culture of well-being in the workplace. In order to do so, they need to feel equipped to check on the mental health and well-being of those who they lead. This presentation will include actionable ideas that employers can enact and implement, including mental health training(s), to ensure managers feel supported to play a role in creating a mentally healthy workplace.
Employers play a crucial role when employees experience a substance use disorder. This informative session will explore the impact substance use disorders have on the workplace. Topics will include how to provide support to employees and creating a recovery-friendly work environment. The session will explore various pathways to recovery and provide valuable resources for you to take away. You can expect to learn how you can make a difference in the lives of those affected by substance use disorders.
This session will define collective trauma and address how it can affect employees. Attendees can expect to learn tips, tricks and tools for cultivating a trauma-informed workplace culture.
This moderated panel discussion will feature speakers who have addressed employee mental health at their organization through innovative policies, practices, and programs. Our panelists will highlight best practices and cover topics including how their companies and its leaders have created supportive work environments, how to reach a multi-national audience, and how to embed mental health into a broader workplace wellbeing strategy. Attendees will have the opportunity to get their questions answered throughout the session.
