With the holiday season in full swing, the 2020’s final episode of The Mental Minute podcast, co-hosted by Jeremy Fallis and Will Heininger, includes a discussion about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in the first half and a few lighthearted Mental and Sports Minutes in the latter half.

Though most commonly known to begin in the fall and carry through the winter, Seasonal Affective Disorder can also be triggered in the spring and carried through the summer months. The co-hosts share their research about the risk factors of SAD, such as reduced sunlight and underlying depression. They also discuss specific symptoms related to the condition, including low energy levels and insomnia, to name a few.

Later, Will and Jeremy share their top 5 favorite holiday songs, from old-time classics to modern-day DMX. After reminiscing memories from the holidays, a few words are shared about how 2020 has taught us about the importance of our own mental health and taking care of ourselves. Finally, Will and Jeremy engage in a Sports Minute, including a special recognition to Athletes Connected, a program dedicated to improving the mental health of student athletes.

Finally, an event spotlight for The Depression Center’s Bright Nights forum series, which airs Thursday, Dec. 17. The topic is Structural Racism and Mental Health in the Community. Check out aadl.tv to tune in. The recording will also be available on depressioncenter.org/brightnights.
