Algorithm and Mobile App Development for Speech Analysis to Recognize Mental Status Changes
Patricia Bloom, M.D., assistant professor, Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology, Michigan Medicine
Dr. Patricia Bloom's team has identified speech features that can diagnose early-stage hepatic encephalopathy, a life-limiting complication of liver cirrhosis, and predict future later-stage hepatic encephalopathy. In this session, Dr. Bloom will discuss her team's development of a smartphone application that will use their speech prediction algorithm to help diagnose this condition at home or in the clinic. Specifically, Dr. Bloom will discuss how her team developed a predictive algorithm, the steps that will be used to test it, what resources were used, and the process/challenges of adapting it to a mobile app format and identifying a vendor.
