Ethan Kross, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology and management and organizations and incoming chair of the social psychology area of the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan. He also serves as faculty lead for the Research Innovation Core at the Eisenberg Family Depression Center. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University and joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2008.

His research focuses on controlling the conscious mind. He studies emotions, our inner voice, and how the conversations people have with themselves impact their health, performance, decisions and relationships. His research on emotion sits on the boundaries of multiple areas of psychology research.

His research has been published in Science, The New England Journal of Medicine and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, among other peer-reviewed journals. Kross is the author of the internationally bestselling book, Chatter: The Voice in Our Head, Why it Matters, and How to Harness It. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Harvard Business Review, USA Today, The Economist, The Atlantic, Forbes and Time.
