U-M Veterans Week 2020 recognizes Michigan Medicine and Depression Center Veterans

From November 9th to the 13th, the University of Michigan hosted a virtual Veterans Week celebration with educational programming. The 2020 celebration recognized the experiences and sacrifice of our veterans through panels, lectures, and stories.

Military service prepares many for careers in medicine and healthcare. Co-hosted by Jennifer Lamb and Jenna Long on November 10th, the Michigan Medicine veteran panel was a virtual event for the recognition of the hundreds of veterans who now work at Michigan Medicine. Jennifer is the HomeFront Strong Program Manager and an After Her Service Program Trainer at the U-M Depression Center’s Military Support Programs and Networks (M-SPAN). Among the panelists who gave input on what their military experiences meant to their careers in health care was U-M Depression Center founder and director Dr. John Greden, who shared his stories about serving the mental health needs of soldiers in the US Army. Women often must overcome sexism, sexual harassment, and much more while serving their country. Another panel, “Women in the Military,” was also hosted by Jennifer Lamb and held on November 13th. The panel featured Kali Lake, the PAVE Program Manager at M-SPAN, and the stories of perseverance of women in the military. The link to the Women in the Military Panel can be found here.
