Latest Episode of The Mental Minute Featuring Dr. Nasuh Malas

The latest episode of The Mental Minute podcast was released on Wednesday, Oct. 28th, with a revamped format from the previous four episodes. Depression Center Marketing Communications Specialist Jeremy Fallis joins Outreach Coordinator Will Heininger in the conversation as co-host where they discuss a variety of topics surrounding mental health. They are then joined by an expert guest to cap off the episode.

As we approach Election Day, this new episode touches on the role of mental health in politics, from the impact of stigma surrounding mental illness in history to how we can be mindful of our wellbeing while staying involved in the present political climate. Fallis and Heininger also engage in a few short daily wellness questions, or “mental minutes.” They give advice and share inspiring stories that they have found particularly helpful in managing their mental health and overall wellbeing. A fun “sports minute” is also included.

The second half of the podcast features Dr. Nasuh Malas, who is the chief of child and adolescent psychiatry services at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Both a psychiatrist and a pediatrician, Dr. Malas provides insight on how he goes about supporting families through motivational interviewing.

“Mental illness is part of the human experience,” says Dr. Malas.

He encourages normalizing mental health especially within education institutions where students are victim to a variety of academic and societal pressures.
