Michael Smith, Pharm.D., is a clinical associate professor in the College of Pharmacy and clinical pharmacist at Michigan Medicine. His research aims to improve the pain experience of vulnerable populations, such as older adults and cancer survivors, by ensuring they receive the right treatment at the right time. He focuses on the management of centralized pain through the use of appropriate pain medications, both opioid and non-opioid, and developing clinical decision support systems for patients and physicians. In addition to working at the University of Michigan, Dr. Smith works as a research health scientist in Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center of the LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
