Peer-To-Peer Depression Awareness Campaign

A Collaboration between the University of Michigan Depression Center and the Ann Arbor Public Schools

The Peer-to-Peer Depression Awareness Campaign project is the student education component of the educational collaboration between the Depression Center and Ann Arbor public schools.  The project’s goals are to 1) educate high school students about depression and depressive illnesses, and then 2) support them in finding creative ways to convey this knowledge to their peers in order to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and ultimately, help to promote the early detection of depression, bipolar disorder, and related illnesses.

The project provides the education and resources necessary to support teams of students from several high schools throughout Washtenaw County to develop innovative new ideas to effectively reach their peers with depression awareness and stigma reduction messages. After attending a day-long educational conference at the Depression Center, student teams develop plans for their public awareness campaigns, which the students then implement during the school year.
